Suffolk County Police investigate motor vehicle accident in Copiague
Suffolk County Police First Squad Detectives are investigating a motor vehicle accident in which a bicyclist sustained serious injuries.
On Thursday, November 13, at about 1:39 p.m. Stephanie Filippone, age 18, of 14 Bendix Pl., Lindenhurst was operating her 1997 Dodge Neon westbound on Dixon Avenue and struck a bicyclist who was crossing Dixon Avenue in a Northerly direction. At the time First Precinct uniformed officers were at the scene investigating an unrelated accident. The unidentified bicyclist drove his bike behind an ambulance and eye witnesses told investigators the bicyclist was looking at the accident when he drove into the path of westbound traffic on Dixon Avenue.
The bicyclist was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center. He suffered severe head trauma and internal injuries including a lacerated spleen and is in critical condition.
The First Squad Detectives are seeking the publics help in identifying the bicyclist . He is described as a Hispanic male, medium complexion, approximately 15 to 17 years old. He was riding a black and silver Savanah Huffy, old style looking with six speeds. He was wearing a blue velour hooded jacket, blue jeans and a brown belt. He is approximately five feet, seven inches tall, medium build and light brown eyes. His hair is black and short. He has metal dental braces on his teeth and a scar from a prior hernia operation. Detectives request anyone with information on his identity to call the First Squad Detectives at 631-854-8152.
At this time the investigation is continuing. Filippone’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check and there were no summonses issued.
