Village response to Nor’easter was wonderful

A copy of a letter written to Mayor Scordino and submitted to the Beacon for publication: Dear Mayor:

What can we say other "Wow. What a Village we live in." Thank you ever so much for taking a very terrible situation and helping to make it safe and bearable for those residents of Babylon Village affected tremendously by the affect of the Noreaster flooding last evening. Out of nowhere, the tide rose to the point that navigating the streets on the southern part of Babylon Village was impossible. We’ve experienced high tides before with street flooding, but not to this extreme for most of us.

With the assistance of the Village of Babylon Highway Department and the Village Auxiliary Police and Code Enforcement’s personnel and vehicles personnel and vehicles, residents were safely escorted to their homes by shuttles organized quite efficiently I might add, with residents even being provided warm cars to await the next shuttle to arrive.

It has also come to my attention from conversations with my neighbors and friends that additionally, as a community, many local residents volunteered their own time and vehicles to assist the Village in transporting residents safely to their homes. Some even used their strength to carry seniors so they didn’t have to wade through any water. This is what communities should do for each other. Thanks to all of them as well.

While waiting for the shuttle to arrive, residents talked about how appreciative they were to the Village of Babylon for responding in such a quick fashion. Without your assistance, we would have had many residents either stranded or injured attempting to reach their homes on their own.

Thank you ever so much for your immediate response to this situation.

P.S. Riding home on the back of an open pick up truck helped the children handle a scary situation in a fun fashion.
