The Suffolk County Library Association (SCLA) presented West Islip resident Carolyn Agenjo with the 2005 Excellence in Library Service Award (ELSA). This award is open to any half time or full-time employee with one year of service in any public, private or special library, through a nomination process. She was honored for her exemplary job performance, promoting goodwill among library patrons and staff members, fostering team spirit and her innovative spirit.
Beginning her library work as a volunteer "Friend of the Library," she joined the staff of the West Islip Public Library in 1982 and has grown into her present position as head of computer services. She taught herself HTML and created the first public library web page in Suffolk County. She has been called a "goodwill ambassador" for her tireless efforts helping staff and the community through their computer difficulties and keeping the library’s technological systems working during a recent renovation.
