The New York State Association of REALTORS® (NYSAR) recently honored East Islip REALTOR® Joseph L. Canfora as the 2005 REALTOR® of the year during the association’s fall Business Meetings in Saratoga Springs, New York.

He is the 48th recipient of the award, which recognizes outstanding service to the REALTOR® organization at the local, state and national levels, a strict adherence to the high principles of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR)Code of Ethics, a commitment to civic activity and business accomplishment.

A REALTOR® for more than 30 years, Canfora is the broker-owner of Century 21 Selmar Realty in East Islip. He also operates Suffolk Funding, Inc.

He is a licensed real estate broker and mortgage broker in both, New York and Florida. He holds the Graduate REALTOR® Institute, Certified Residential Specialist and Certified Residential Broker designations.

A past president of NYSAR (2004), the Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) (1998) and the Long Island Multiple Listing Service (1980-81), he has a long history of involvement at all levels of the REALTOR® organization, serving on and leading numerous committees. He has served for more than a decade as a member of the NAR, NYSAR and LIBOR Boards of Directors.

Joseph E. Mottola, the Chief Executive Officer of LIBOR/MLS said, "To be singled out by your peers in a state with 60,000 Realtors®, is recognition on a scale that is truly overwhelming. The accolades upon the announcement of the award could be best summed up under the heading "so well deserved."

A strong supporter of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC), Canfora has been actively involved in local, state and national lobbying efforts.

In 2004, Gov. George Pataki appointed Canfora to serve on the New York State Real Estate Board.
