Babylon Little Leaguers win championship

On August 11, the 14 and 15 year old Babylon Baseball team won the division 34 Western Suffolk Baseball championship at Tanner Park in Copiague. Babylon defeated Lindenhurst 7-0 in the finals. The Babylon team finished their regular season 17 wins and 4 losses. The team was also 4 and 0 in the playoffs outscoring opponents 30-5. Strong pitching and timely hitting were keys to the team’s success. Pitching for Babylon were Steven Morvay, Rob Freyer and Mark Milano. Mark Milano pitched a three hit shutout in the championship game striking out nine Lindenhurst batters. Steven Morvay made 2 great defensive plays and Rob Freyer had two hits and two RBI’s. Other players on the team include Joe Bender, Dennis Ferrara, Tom Hevner, Jim Kelly, Peter Menchini, Jesse Nulty, Drew Norman, Zachary Rinaldo, Myles Fontana and Shant Malhas. Head Coach Matt Morvay was assisted by Rob Freyer and Rich Menchini.
