West Babylon School District presented with literacy workshops
Teachers in the West Babylon School District were recently presented with workshops from national literacy expert, Laura Robb. The West Babylon School District’s kindergarten through grade 12 literacy initiative is based upon Robb’s research in the field of strategy-based learning. The goals of this initiative are to enable students to become independent strategic readers and lifelong learners and to provide ongoing professional development to impact teaching and learning.
The Laura Robb Conference Day was organized by Jaimie Shein and Lisa Horner, two West Babylon Collegial Circle/Listserv Facilitators. It included a morning workshop, literacy chat, and an afternoon workshop. As the workshops were part of a districtwide professional development program, staff members from all of the West Babylon schools were selected to attend. Some guests from visiting school districts were invited as well.
Plans are in the works for Robb to visit West Babylon next year. Shown in photo is Laura Robb during one of her presentations.
