•Computer kindergarten for grown-ups will be presented at the library Tuesday, February 1, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. by Sharper Training Solutions, Inc. This is a slow-paced, user-friendly hands-on workshop for first-time computer users. There is a $10 non-refundable fee due at registration. Space is limited so register early.

•Insight into current issues with Barbara Krupit will be offered Friday, January 14, 1 to 3 p.m. in the Library’s meeting room.
•Supervised bridge play for the more experienced player will be held through March 1 on Tuesdays, 1:15 to 3:45 p.m. The fee is $45 for residents and $50 for nonresidents. Carol Mathews is the instructor. Stop by the circulation desk for more information.
•The January display will feature work by Kenneth Hubbard, a local photographer in the Main Reading Room. Artwork by the children of St. Peter’s by the Sea Dayschool will be displayed in the side showcase . Brentwood • 273-7883

•The Daytime Book Discussion Group will meet Friday, January 14, 2 to 4 p.m. to discuss One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd, a novel by Jim Fergus.
•On Sunday, January 16, 2 to 3:30 p.m. the library will have a tribute to Martin Luther King. Janie Stockhamer and Kerma Gerz will give a vivid portrait in poetry and song of a man and the movement he guided.
•Parents for Megan’s Law will offer a program Wednesday, January 19, 7 to 8:30 p.m. The 10 prevention tips created by Laura Ahearn, executive director for Parents for Megan’s Law will be presented as well as the 11 red flags to detect inappropriate behavior, the 27 tricks sexual predators use and the physical and behavioral signs of sexual abuse.
•The Library’s Mothers’ Center is coming soon to the children’s department. The Center offers parents a place to speak to other parents, share concerns, attend programs created by parents for parents and help break through the isolation of parenting.
•In the Gallery for the month of January will be the work of artist Paul Padovano who will display his landscape and still life paintings executed in oils and watercolor and the Commack Cavalry Crusaders 4H Club will present a display on 4H and its club’s activities and service projects.
•The Brentwood History Room offers a new slide show, People and Places from Brentwood’s History. While there, see the ongoing exhibit of Brentwood memorabilia and many other "local history" materials in the collection.

•On Tuesday, January 18, 7 p.m., Skin Care For All Ages, designed for both men and women will be offered by image consultant Rebecca Kopcienski who will help you determine your skin type, examine the common skin care problems and sort through the many skin care products on the market. •A free blood pressure screening will be held Friday, January 14, 10 to 11 a.m. by Patti Molinari, EMT technician. No registration is necessary. Screenings will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome.
•The library will conduct library tours, Thursday, January 20, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Library tours are conducted by Fred Strum, reference librarian.
•The movie, Raising Helen, a romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson and John Corbett will be shown Thursday, January 20, 1:30 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13.

•A program in guarding against identity theft will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2 to 3 p.m. A Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office representative will provide an introduction to the fastest growing crime trend in the country. Topics to be discussed include: types of personal identification information that can be stolen, methods used to steal the information, identify theft prevention and recommended actions for victims. Registration is underway.
•On Thursday, January 20, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. join chocolatier Tracy Ray for a demonstration on how to create chocolate truffles. Tasting will follow the demonstration. Registration is underway.

•The Lights on Literature program will discuss Skipping Christmas by John Grisham at the Library, Wednesday, January 19, 7:30 p.m. Librarian Nell Brosnan will lead the discussion. Registration is underway.
•During the month of January, the following exhibitors will display their work: August Garofalo will display his handmade birdhouses in the children’s department display case; The American Association of University Women will have a display of their activities’ photos, artifacts, membership information and newsletters in the entrance display case and Art Without Walls will sponsor Jay Petersen’s display of mystical abstract paintings in the Gallery Hall.
