Jury convicts No. Babylon Sunday school teacher
A Suffolk County jury this afternoon convicted a 60-year-old North Babylon Sunday school teacher of first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Acting State Supreme Court Justice Michael Mullen will sentence Winston Lindsay of 537 Mount Ave. on February 10, 2005. He faces up to eight years in prison.
Opening statements were on Monday, December 13 and the jury began deliberations late Thursday morning. Born in Jamaica, Lindsay claims to have once worked there as a police officer. He told police that he teaches Sunday school at the Faith Tabernacle Church of God on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon.
He was arrested November 12 of last year for the sexual abuse of a female juvenile under the age of 11.
Lindsay disavowed his written confession during the trial when he took the stand in his own defense. He told the jury he did not have his glasses on when he signed his written confession.
