New York State passes landmark anti-terrorism laws
Dear Editor:

The New York State Senate and Assembly recently passed landmark anti-terrorism legislation, which I co-sponsored, that will dramatically increase the protections afforded to all New Yorkers, as well as the resources available to law enforcement officers and prosecutors.

When this legislation is signed into law by Governor George E. Pataki, New York will have one of the toughest anti-terror laws in the nation. The legislation creates new felony crimes for criminally possessing a chemical or biological weapon and laundering money in support of terrorism, increases the statute of limitations for terror related crimes, expands training methods for emergency personnel and scrutinizes security plans for airports and facilities that store hazardous substances.

As a prime co-sponsor of this legislation, I applaud my colleagues in the State Legislature, as well as the Governor and the Attorney General, for working together and taking decisive action on this extremely important issue.

Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.

New York State Senator
