•A Halloween blood drive will be held Saturday, October 30, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children are welcome to come with you and have their faces painted and receive many Halloween surprises in the Library’s community room.

•On November 3, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. a course on retirement will be held. You will learn how to assess your retirement income needs, understand investment choice and increase your investment returns. Register for this free informative program.

•Ann Hilbert from RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) will be at the Library Thursday, November 4, 2 to 4 p.m. to provide information on health insurance (Medicare only) to any eligible. No appointment will be given.

•Free hearing screenings will be done by the Huntington hearing and Speech center, Thursday, November 4, 1 to 3 p.m. No registration required. Screenings will be done on a first come, first serve basis.

•Free blood pressure checks are given the first Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

•As part of the Library’s parenting series, on November 3, 7 to 9 p.m. a program will be given on Reducing Holiday Stress. These workshops are offered by the Human Development Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County. To register call the Cooperative Extension at 727-7850.

•Barbara Krupit will lead a discussion on the book Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, Thursday, November 4, 1 to 3 p.m. in the Library meeting room.

•A defensive driving course will be offered Saturday, November 6, 9 a.m. This non-AARP class may reduce your insurance costs and points on your license. Registration prior to the program is mandatory.

Lindenhurst Memorial

•Computer Third Grade for Grownups will be held Saturday, October 30, 10 a.m. to noon. This is a hands-on workshop which will cover multi-tasking, working with graphics, using Windows drawing and painting tools and using copy, cut and past. There is a $9 fee which is payable at registraiton. Class size is limited.

•The library will hold a GRASP Home/Study Orientation, Monday, November 1 for those interested in earning a High School Equivalency Diploma. Class will be held 6 to 9 o.m. If you are interested in learning English, class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration is under.

•On Saturday, October 30, 2 to 3 p.m. a discussion of the book The Hostile Hospital will be offered for children in grades four, five and six. This is book eight in the Series of Unfortunate Events. Children should read the book before registering.

•Chef Charlie will share family traditions and recipes, Thursday, November 4, 6:30 to 8 p.m. In person registration is underway. There is a non-refundable materials fee of $3.

•Friday afternoon at the movies will be held each Friday in October, 1 to 3 p.m. Call the Library for details on the movie.

•Free blood pressure screening will be held at the Library, Wednesday, November 3, 4 to 5 p.m. This community service is performed by the nurses from Consolation Residence.

•A virus and spyware protection program will be held at the Library, Wednesday, November 3, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Michael Nastasi, of Spectre Personal Computers will off the program. Learn about awareness and protection, how to minimize your exposure and how to remove and clean up your system in case of infection.

•The library will sponsor a November 10 bus trip to Radio City Music Hall’s Holiday Spectacular. Lunch will be at SouthWest NY Restaurant in the World Financial Center next to the Winter Garden. The bus departs the library 8:30 a.m. and returns at approximately 5 p.m. The cost is $91 and includes admission, lunch and gratuities. The trip is open to the general public.
