A hello to Babylon
Dear Editor:
I do so miss Babylon and all my friends and neighbors. After living most of my life there, it’s difficult to move so far away. I enjoy getting The Beacon and especially Heard It On The Grapevine.
I spent most of my life in Babylon. As a child, living in Brooklyn, my summers were spent on the estate of my grandfather, William Guy Gilmore, located in West Babylon on the site of the present South Bay Shopping Center. It was a real farm then with chickens, cows, horses and a large vegetable garden. My sister, Ruth Stevenson was born there in 1916 during the polio epidemic
Shortly after my marriage to F.H. (Tip) Healy in 1937 we moved to Babylon where we brought up our two daughters, Sharon and Sybil Jr.
