Diana Soehl, currently teaching seventh grade science at Robert Moses Middle School, has been chosen to participate in a summer workshop through NASA. The My NASA Data 2004 Teacher Workshop will be held at the NASA Langley Research Center August 4-11. Soehl is one of 20 highly qualified teachers selected from school districts across the country. Soehl is a 1991 graduate of Copiague High School. She is a member of the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). Soehl is excited and honored to have been chosen for this prestigious and competitive NASA summer workshop.

The hands-on workshop is designed for grades 6-12 educators. It will focus on the use of Earth Science data sets derived from NASA’s Earth Observing System satellites. During the workshop, Soehl and the other selected teachers will explore educational application of the data sets, use of weather measurements, along with hands-on classroom activities and participate in field trips. Teachers will gain from expertise of nationally recognized atmospheric researchers. The participants will also explore how the data sets can be used to enhance curriculum and how students can use the data during inquiry based learning and research activities.
