Reader stands beside Bush, and decision to protect US interests

2004-06-04 / Opinion

Dear Editor:

One of your readers thinks that the United States of America needs U.N. permission to go to war to protect our national interest. This thinking is wrong as the U.N. is not a one person-one vote democratic organization and cannot respect itself as moral authority. The United States with a population of over 250 million has the same vote in the U.N. as Canada, with a population of 30 million. The U.N. has a bad record as a peacekeeper. Since 1945 we have provided over 90 percent of the equipment and troops in Korea, Vietnam and Gulf Wars. So let’s not play down our friends that have helped us in Iraq and made life safer for our troops.

At the present time we need Middle Eastern oil to heat our homes and operate our cars. This is necessary if we do not want to become a Third World nation. George W. Bush is looking out for us like Harry S. Truman did years ago. Waging war is a dirty job and I thank God we have the troops to do it.

Just for the record, as of May 18, we have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and I am glad Saddam Hussein is in jail.
