Jean Grunwald, RN, MPA is retiring from Good Samaritan Hospital after 32 years of service. Grunwald has been an integral part of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for the better part of 32 years. As her career progressed, she first became assistant head nurse of the hospital’s special care unit and then head nurse. Subsequently, she was named director of nursing education. Grunwald has played an essential role in establishing the Breast Health Center. In 1992, the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition approached Good Samaritan to discuss the feasibility of co-developing an on-site local facility for cancer testing and treatment. Grunwald was a natural to head the establishment of a breast center at the hospital. The Breast Health Center has helped over 100,000 women in their fight with breast cancer. Grunwald has worn many hats over her 32 years with Good Samaritan. In 1999, she was named vice president of community relations and marketing. She has given 32 years of compassion to our community," said Carpenter. "Through her dedication to the health care profession she has touched the lives of many and she will be greatly missed," added Carpenter.
