Sixth annual Good Samaritan Golf Classic held July 9th
The sixth annual Good Samaritan Golf Classic was held on July 9 at Southward Ho Country Club. The sold-out event raised nearly $200,000 for the Medical Center’s Nursing Education Development Fund. Reservations for good weather were again honored and players enjoyed breakfast, lunch and a dinner and awards presentation.
Astoria Federal stepped up to the tee again this year as Classic Sponsor. Sandler O’Neill & Partners provided an elegant cocktail reception followed by a delightful dinner sponsored by Bower, Sanger & Lawrence, PC. Tellers Chophouse generously sponsored the Awards Presentation while JPMorgan Chase and Wiedersum Associates Architects ordered up a barbecue luncheon for all. Each player received a beautiful garment bag courtesy of Lewis, Johs, Avallone, Avilles & Kaufman, LLP, along with a robotic calculator from Albrecht, Viggiano, Zureck & Company, PC. Greenpoint Bank generously donated sleeves of golf balls for the afternoon golfers while Roslyn Savings Bank took care of the early morning players.
James P. Dunn, Jr. chaired the event and was pleased with its successful outcome both for the enjoyment of the participants and the benefit of Good Samaritan. Grand prizes were a one-week vacation for two to West Palm Beach courtesy of Southwest Airlines and the Sheraton West Palm Beach Hotel and $3,500 cash. They were won by Anthony Rizzo and Paul Abrams respectively. Bill Fontanetta made the winning bid on eighteen Long Island Ducks box-seat tickets donated for auction by Vytra Health Plans. There were no hole-in-one winners for the 1932 Ford Model T Replica, Ford Thunderbird and Mustang Convertibles, or Ford Explorer graciously offered by Newins Bay Shore Ford.
The Medical Center is privileged to extend its appreciation to the many supporters of this event, and for gifts in kind from P. C. Richard & Son along with many local businesses
