IT WAS A NIGHT TO REMEMBER at the Babylon Yacht Club last week when a fashion show was held featuring models young and old, male and female, wearing clothes of every description from local stores and shops. There was something for everyone, from the little ones wearing the adorable outfits from "Puddle Duck" to "our set" — some of them wearing gowns in the 40s style and others the current fashions of "Talbots", the "Ann Taylor Loft" and "Bunger’s". Maggie Shaw put her years of experience in the fashion world to good use as she presented the commentary and description of the models and clothes. Paul Steinberg’s background music was "just right," and the desserts and other goodies were delicious. The stars of the show? Little Aidan McCabe and his sister, Elizabeth in their matching outfits from "Puddle Duck." Irene Morris and her committee worked tirelessly to put the whole thing together — all proceeds go for the Suffolk County Coalition for Domestic Violence Victims.

LOCAL AVIATION PIONEER. Joe Leone of Babylon Village was featured in several segments of the NBC show, "100 Years of Aviation" hosted by Chuck Scarborough last Wednesday night. Joe retired as the Manager of Production Control at Pan American Airlines after over 40 years where his assignments took him all over the world. He’s an active member of the Pan Am Historical Society which is dedicated to acknowledging the tremendous contributions of Pan Am to our country, both in war and peace. Had to miss the show, but we hear he was terrific!

DID YOU MISS THE CONKLIN HOUSE PARTY? If you’re one of the few in the Village who couldn’t make it, you can still get to see the beautiful landscaping and flower arrangements. Drop by and check them out — they are fantastic! Hats off to Maura Miles Mason who’s responsible for the planning and designing.

AND SPEAKING OF THE CONKLIN HOUSE. The restored Conklin House chimney stone, newly refurbished, now rests in a protective cabinet in the Federal Period Parlor. Thanks so much to Artistic Custom Millworks in Lindenhurst and cabinet makers Bernie Bouchard and Steve Leary who generously donated their time and talents to this permanent home for our Village treasure. And thanks also go to Conklin House Trustee Gene Turner who designed the cabinet and visited many cabinet makers before assigning the project. Their cabinet company is in Lindenhurst, but Bernie and Steve are both residents of — you guessed it — our own Babylon Village.

PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT the huge house under construction in Argyle Park. We hear several variances were involved. There appears to be three front entrances - quite unusual! We hear pros and cons: some of the residents think it will increase the value of their homes, but others are concerned about the size for the property!

GOOD SAM VOLUNTEERS ARE HONORED. The charter members of the guilds of Good Samaritan Hospital were honored at a tea party held in the Conference room at the hospital last week. Some sixteen volunteers who had volunteered at the hospital for a whopping 15 years were on hand for the celebration, and all received a memento in appreciation for their hard work over the years.

IT’S THE CENTENNIAL YEAR AT THE BABYLON YACHT CLUB, and lots going on. The swim team had a perfect record this summer and were undefeated in dual meets all season long. Congratulations to a great bunch of athletes.
