•The program Ancient Egyptian Magic will be presented Saturday, October 5, 3 p.m. Join Joanne Salbador for a fascinating discussion on the powerful role magic played in the lives of Egyptians. Registration is underway.

•An eight-session Tai Chi exercise program with instructor Joe Cronin will be held Mondays, October 7 through December 9, 10:30 a.m. Non-refundable fee of $10 per person, registration is underway.

•Join Hanne Hearn for a Fall Decoration Craft Tuesday, October 8, 6:45 p.m. Learn how to paint a 28 inch tall wooden tree and decorate it with lights, leaves, flowers and a bow. $15 non-refundable fee, registration is underway.

•VOICES theatre group will present a free performance of the classic ghost story, The Uninvited, Friday, October 18, 7:30 to 9 p.m. The play will be performed in the manner of an oldtime radio broadcast with spooky sound effects. Sign-up at the library or by phone.

•BOCES instructors will be at the library Wednesday, October 9 to present orientations in the HELP or the GRASP study courses. You must be at least 21 years of age, not enrolled in school and unable to attend ABE/GED classes. The HELP orientation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.; the GRASP orientation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

•The Brown Bags ‘n’ Books book discussion will be held Thursday, October 10, noon to 2 p.m. Join Fran Cohen for a discussion on A Gesture Life by Chang-Rae Lee. Bring a brown bag lunch, coffee and cookies will be supplied.

•Sign-up is underway for two West Islip Library Adventures Fall bus trips: Thursday, October 17, Long Island’s Legacy of Flight, leaves 9:45 a.m., $65 per person. Travel back in time to see Long Islands impact on aviation with a visit to The American Air Power Museum at Republic airfield and the newly opened Cradle of Aviation Museum at Mitchell Field. Then enjoy lunch at the 56th Fighter Squadron in Farmingdale; Friday, November 15, The Cloisters and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, leaves 7:45 a.m., $55 per person. Following an hour-long tour at the cathedral, there will be lunch at Sylvia’s and then a visit to The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park.
