Deer Park Library holds public meeting for capital improvement plan
The Deer Park Library is holding a public meeting to outline its capital improvement plan to the public on Thursday, November 17, 7:30 p.m., at the JFK Middle School cafeteria. The date of the vote is November 12 and the library is asking the public to support a $7.95 million plan. It is expected to increase taxes on a home assessed at $3,400 an additional $57 a year in local taxes, if approved.
The library plans to add 18,700 square feet to the current library. A single family home directly south of the library will be demolished to provide room for the expansion. A new parking lot will be constructed and a children’s area, including a preschool center lower shelving, more computers and a separate activities room will be built.
The library also pans to open a young adult area with computer terminals add quiet study space, additional shelf space for collections and an enlarged meeting room that can be divided to accommodate more than one group at a time. The total capacity will be 120 people.. The new building will be handicapped accessible and have elevator access to each floor.
