Babylon blanks Bauport 21-0
by Tony Spota
The Babylon Panthers put up a stone wall defense to contain the Bayport Phantoms, 21-0 on Saturday, September 28, at Bayport.
The Phantoms’ running game was smothered by Babylon’s solid defensive line - Tim Halvorsen, Nick Fowler, Zach Rude, Harry Hansen, J.P. Parrinello and John Carr. Outside linebackers Chris Ribando and Miguel Soto contained the wide stuff. Inside linebackers Trevon Rodney and John Axmacher filled the gaps. Backs Andy Rodgers, Sean Kerr and Dan King provided the deep coverage. Bayport was limited to 102 yards rushing and only two completed passes for 34 yards. Babylon picked off two passes - King and Soto, the latter on a batted ball by Halvorsen, which was run back for 47 yards. Parrinello had a key sack late in the game.
The Panthers’ first drive went 51 yards on seven plays, capped by a 20-yard burst up the middle by Rodney. Mike Parrinello kicked the first of his three extra points. They scored again in the second quarter when King hit Soto on a deep post for 32 yards and a touchdown. Their final score in the last period came on another 20-yard run by Rodney who smashed through right tackle, passed the linebackers and cut left across the middle to outleg the secondary. Rodney had 14 carries for 108 yards, Carr had 13 for 92 and Axmacher 8 for 42 as the Babylon ground game totaled 242 yards.
Saturday, the Panthers play the Amityville Warriors at Amityville. Game time is listed at 1:30 p.m.
