Writers: plan to kill off nuisance geese is immoral
Dear Editor:
I was shocked and outraged when I saw the Channel 12 News story that Belmont Park had permission to gather hundreds of geese to an upstate slaughter plant.
The explanation was brief, but referred to the fact that there were too many geese in the water and droppings in the park area. To kill animal life, because they became a nuisance is immoral. Geese and all wildlife have God’s right to live in the water and unfortunately they do not have indoor plumbing like humans.
I plead with any concerned Long Island residents to write their local government offices not to approve the killing of wildlife. Citizens want their voices to be heard before another slaughter is authorized. The public should be given a chance to speak on behalf of the geese that cannot be heard.
Humans must share this planet with all creatures or someday humans might also be "gathered and brought to an upstate plant to be slaughtered" because they, too, have become a "nuisance" in God’s laws.
