Blood drive challenge met at Good Sam
Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center beat its own blood donor record on May 29 with a total of 468 pints. Employees, physicians and friends from the community met the challenge proposed by Good Samaritan President and CEO Richard J. Murphy. The goal for May was successfully achieved by surpassing the record of 415 pints set in February. Good Samaritan holds the reign as the "highest producer of blood among hospitals that run drives through the New York Blood Center and the third-highest producing of all groups on Long Island, including Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties." The Good Samaritan family and community members are congratulated for this admirable accomplishment.
According to Joseph Murray from Long Island Blood Services, "Good Samaritan’s blood drive on May 29 produced enough blood to save 2340 lives on Long Island. As a result of the two drives held in 2002, Good Samaritan’s donors saved an amazing 4415 lives through their contributions. Every donor makes a difference since each pint of blood saves five lives.
The next blood drive at Good Samaritan will be held September 11 in the Guild Conference Center. The New York Blood Center has chosen Good Samaritan as the only site in Suffolk County on September 11 to receive blood donations.
