Guide Dog Foundation visits
Retired teacher Martha Skrivanek recently spoke to the fourth grade students at Marion G. Vedder Elementary School in North Babylon. Skrivanek became a volunteer at the Guide Dog Foundation 15 years ago, after retiring as a teacher at Marion G. Vedder Elementary School. She has been a puppy walker for 23 guide dogs in training. She presently has a breeder dog, Daisy, who accompanied her to the school.
The children viewed a video which explained the work of the Guide Dog Foundation Program and participated in exercises which demonstrate the difficulty encountered by the visually handicapped. Several children indicated a desire to one day become puppy walkers. To learn more about the Foundation call 800-548-4337, or log onto www.guidedog.org.
