American flag quilt hangs in the hallway of Westbrook Elementary School

A huge American flag quilt hangs in the hallway of Westbrook Elementary School in West Islip, handmade by students and dedicated to the rescue workers "who are helping our nation" following the September 11 tragedy in New York City. The individual squares of cloth containing personalized messages were sewn together by teacher Marissa Rodriguez’s grandmother, Gen Hannigan.

Pictured, , are Principal Anthony Napodano, Marissa Rodriguez, Gen Hannigan, David Fogel, Matthew Carlin, Elizabeth Bird, Joseph Walsh, Connor Neubert, Alex Derocchis and Shannon Napodano. The West Islip Fire Department will deliver the quilt to the city.
