Heard It On The Grapevine
By Frick and Frack
PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT the fabulous time they had at the 60th reunion of the Babylon High School Class of 1941. Some fifty class members and their spouses enjoyed the delicious food and all of the festivities at the party hosted by class member Alice Coenen Zaruka and her husband Will at their home on Ross Road. And they came from near and far — some of the out-of-towners were: Dorothy Hartley Aldrich of Millbrook, NY, Phyllis Abbott Allis and her husband George of Connecticut, Joann Kelly Arthur, Boston, Jane Hanse Bishop of Bethesda, Maryland, Ann Kipybida Deluca, Peggy Abbott Dunlop and Robert Dunlop of Belle Haven, Virginia, Ruth Alto Houghton, Helen Down Juiffre and her husband Stuart Juiffre of North Carolina, Gloria Hermann Marshall of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lois Bookstaver Minsker of New Jersey, and Regina McGee Minella and her husband Ralph of New Jersey. This was the first reunion for Syd Askoff and also for Jane Hanse Bishop, and they had a ball. We hear that Lou Wenger was a great M.C. We’ve talked to several class members, and all agree: it was a day to remember! Let’s not forget Ruth Lott Leitch, the co-chair who worked so hard.
IT’S NOT MUSIC TO THEIR EARS. We hear from friends that the Long Island Yacht Club neighbors are registering complaints with the Village about the noise in the evenings coming from the club. The Village noise ordinance calls for a 10 p.m. shut off. They’re working on a compromise as we write.
IT’S A GIRL for Laura and Michael Greatsinger. Brooke Dayton was born at St. Catherine of Sienna Hospital in Smithtown. Jillianne is pleased to have a nice sister. Pamela and Richard Burns and Helen Greatsinger all of Babylon are the very proud grandparents. This is Helen’s 11th grandchild — congrats to all.
WE GET VISITORS, LOTS OF THEM IN THE SUMMER. Here’s some of the people who’ve been enjoying vacation time in our wonderful Village: Abby and Mike Boyle and daughters Sarah and Sam of Connecticut, Pam and T.J. Kane and their children Ryan and Katie of Scituate, Massachusetts and Kristin Kane of San Francisco had a wonderful visit with their parents, Jane and Tom Kane; Vi and Walter Batty of Key West have been in town visiting with relatives and friends and having a ball, Janet Davies enjoyed visits here from her children and grandchildren, Julian of Kingston NY, Betsey Davies of Cape Cod, Evar Evers and Monir and Jeff Parker of Hurley, NY, Libby Weinstein and her daughter Carrie spent last weekend with Libby’s parents, Joan and Bud St. John. These are just some of the many, many visitors to our great summer resort — more next week.
CLOSER TO HOME AND FURTHER FROM HOME. "Maggie" and Charlie Collis are thrilled to have their daughter Joy Ziemak and grandson Greg closer to home. They’ve moved to Connecticut from Lawrence, Kansas and are getting settled in their home in Westport. For Marge Voorhies it was a different story. Her daughter Kathy Ryerson and her husband Peter and their children recently moved from Amityville, and are now living in Savannah, Georgia. Best wishes to both families in their new digs.
CONGRATULATIONS TO PETER BATTY. Peter and his family were longtime residents of the area before moving to Key West several years ago. They love the community and have been very active, and now Peter has been appointed as a Deacon in the Key West Catholic Church. Heard this news from his very proud mother Vi.
AND THE ANSWER IS: Remember the old photo we printed several weeks ago? No one has come up with the correct answer for all three of the people shown. So, here goes... From left to right they were: Paul Fishel, Gloria and Terry McGuirk. Paul passed away many years ago and Gloria and Terry, still looking great, are retired and live in Florida.
