A taste of home travels to South Dakota Dear Editor:

I can’t tell you how much I enjoy reading the "Amityville Record" on-line as well as the "Babylon Beacon" and "Massapequa Post". It’s always nice to see what’s happening in the "old neighborhood".

I am News Director at KORN radio here in Mitchell, winner of the South Dakota Associated Press Broadcasters Award for Overall Excellence. I guess you could say I know a little something about news. In the past sixth months I’ve covered President Bush, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, and Ambassador George McGovern along with the usual School Board and City Council meetings. I love what I do! Can you tell?

I’m a 1974 graduate of Copiague Senior, now

Walter G. O’Connell, High School. I’ve been a life-long reader of the "Amityville Record". In fact my sister Joan Skelly wrote a column for your paper around 1968 or so.

Here in South Dakota I’ve built an appreciation for weekly newspapers such as the "South Dakota Mail", "Armour Chronicle", "Emery Enterprise" and "Alexandria Herald". The combined population of these communities is still probably less than a third of the entire population of Amityville!

Thanks for doing a great job in covering the community and keeping a "native" informed! All the best!

J.P. Skelly, News Director

KORN Radio, Mitchell, South Dakota
