Angela M. McGirr, 70, former longtime Babylon Village resident
Angela M. McGirr, a former longtime Babylon Village resident and teacher in the Patchogue School District, died at a nursing home in St. Petersburg, Florida from complications of a stroke August 2. She was 70 years old.
Born in New York City October 18, 1930, she was raised in Babylon and graduated from Temple University with a master’s degree. She taught special education.
In 1986, Ms. McGirr moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where she was a member of St. John Vianney R.C. Church in St. Petersburg, the Catholic Daughters of American, Legion of Mary, Church Choir and Bell Choir. She was also a Eucharistic Minister.
"She was a lovely lady," said her friend and longtime Babylon neighbor Teresa Martin. "She was also musical and played the guitar at the Babylon Fair every year."
Ms. McGirr is survived by her cousins, James A. McGirr of Pipersville, Pennsylvania; William McGirr of Connecticut and Patricia M. Johnson of Manhattan.
A memorial mass for Ms. McGirr will be held at St. John Vianney Church in St. Petersburg October 18, 2001. Her ashes will be interred in St. Charles Cemetery.
