POLICE BLOTTER The following incidents have been reported by the Suffolk County Police
Department’s First Precinct and other local fire and law enforcement agencies. For additional police news, see the Beacon shopper.
FIRE INVESTIGATIONS
East Farmingdale: Police and West Babylon firefighters responded to an 11:15 p.m., July 4 call reporting a fire in a dumpster along Route 109. Police and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The cause of the small blaze was not known as yet.
West Babylon: Police and Lindenhurst fire department volunteers were called July 5 to an abandoned building on Route 27A that was on fire. Police and Lindenhurst Fire Department personnel responded to the 1:45 p.m. call and the fire was quickly brought under control and put out.
DISTURBANCES
West Babylon: A 17th Street resident called police July 3 complaining that a neighbor constantly plays loud music at all hours and has had a number of construction material deliveries in the early morning hours. Upon arrival at 9:55 a.m., police found that the person alleged to be causing the
disturbances had placed a sign on his front lawn reading "Neighbor, mind your own business." Police spoke to both parties and advised the original caller to notify them if the disturbances continue.
North Babylon: A July 6 call brought police to Stone Avenue to investigate a group of youths said to be hanging out and drinking. Police arrived minutes after the 10:20 p.m. call, but the youths had already fled.
BURGLARIES
Wyandanch: Sometime between 10:30 p.m., July 5 and 5:30 a.m., July 6, someone broke into a Long Island Avenue store through a back door and stole an undisclosed amount of cigarettes.
Deer Park: An unknown person broke into a garage on Greeland Avenue and made off with a number of undisclosed items. The break-in and theft took place sometime between 2:30 p.m., July 6 and 1 p.m., July 7.
North Babylon: Unknown persons broke into a Peconic Avenue stable and made off with about 20 various items. The break-in and theft occurred sometime between 6:45 p.m., July 7 and 7:30 a.m., July 8.
Lindenhurst: Someone broke into a North Kings Avenue home July 11 and stole a number of undisclosed items. The break-in occurred between 8:15 a.m. and 5:05 p.m.
GRAND LARCENY
Farmingdale: A 1992 Acura Integra parked outside a Schleigel Boulevard home was stolen during the night. Police said the car was parked at the home at 9:30 p.m., July 10 and was discovered missing the following morning at 6.
West Babylon: Two persons, described only as white males, snatched a woman’s purse outside a Sunrise Highway store and fled in a 1987 Cavalier. The incident took place at 10:08 p.m., July 5. Police are looking for the vehicle and the two men.
•An unknown person stole a Ford flatbed truck that was parked at a Wellwood Avenue business. The truck was taken sometime between 6 p.m., July 6 and 8 a.m., July 10.
Lindenhurst: A person said to be a former tenant at a North Delaware Avenue apartment complex stole air conditioners and other items from the apartment. The theft took place between 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., July 5.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
Wheatley Heights: A daylight attempt July 9 to break into a Colonial Springs Road home proved unsuccessful. However, police said the break-in, which took place between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., resulted in locks at the home being destroyed.
Farmingdale: An unknown person damaged the storm door glass at a Secatogue Avenue home. The act of vandalism occurred sometime between 10 p.m., July 9 and 9:45 a.m., July 10.
West Babylon: In a possible attempt to enter a Westchester Avenue home, someone damaged the windows, then left the scene. The attempted break-in occurred between 11 p.m., July 5 and 10 a.m., July 6.
•Someone broke several windows at the JFK Elementary School on Brookvale Avenue. The act of vandalism took place between midnight, July 5 and 6 a.m., July 6.
Lindenhurst: At 5:25 p.m., July 10, a group of picketers slashed the tires of a car parked outside a New Horizons Boulevard business.
•A person or persons unknown put a bullet hole in a car parked outside an East June Street home. The incident took place between 10 p.m., July 4 and 4 a.m., July 5.
Deer Park: A car parked outside a West 15th Street home was vandalized July 5 by unknown persons. The incident occurred sometime prior to its 6:55 a.m. discovery.
West Islip: An unknown person threw rocks at the front door of a County Road 57 business, smashing the glass portion of the door. The act of vandalism took place at about 1:30 p.m., July 6.
•A car parked on West 4th Street was vandalized and tools were stolen from the back seat. The incident took place between 1 a.m. and 1 p.m., July 8.
ARRESTS
A list of arrests for this week from the First and Third Precinct was unavailable due to computer problems.
