Remembering Not Only A Principal, But A Friend "If they remember me for nothing else, tell them all that I loved them very much" Joan E. Howell

Friends and colleagues gathered at John F. Kennedy Intermediate to remember Joan E. Howell, a former principal, guidance counselor, teacher and above all, a true friend. Howell passed away last year after losing her battle with cancer. "Friendship brings us here, for it was one of the most important things Joan valued in her life," John F. Kennedy Intermediate School Assistant Principal Benedict D’Arrigo said. Her caring and kindness touched everyone she came in contact with in the Deer Park School District."

The John F. Kennedy Intermediate School PTA graciously donated a park bench in memory of Joan E. Howell. "Dedicated to Ms. Joan Howell with love and gratitude for making a difference in the lives of so many of us" is inscribed on the bench. "I know she would be very happy sitting on this lovely bench in our courtyard taking in all of its majestic greenery," D’Arrigo said. "We who loved Joan for her compassion, friendship and leadership can thank her for taking the time to make us realize that we should all sit down and appreciate what we treasure most - our friendship with one another."
