Teacher Saves Student's Life
Krista Fatscher’s seventh grade health class was diligently practicing for their upcoming CPR test. Little did Fatscher know that she would be the one tested. When Robert Frost Middle School student Joseph Schroeder began choking during class, Fatscher quickly responded to the situation by performing the Heimlich Maneuver. After nine attempts, the lollipop was successfully dislodged from Schroeder’s throat, clearing his airway. "I am confident that I reacted to a scary situation appropriately," Fatscher said. "I’m happy that everything turned out okay."
A true lifesaver, Fatscher was honored at the Deer Park Board of Education meeting on May 22. She received a certificate of accomplishment for her heroic effort. "We are very pleased and proud of the quick thinking and decisive action on the part of Krista Fatscher," Robert Frost Middle School Principal Dr. Julia E. Bingham said.
