Babylon Track team ends season breaking records

On Saturday, June 2 at the Suffolk County State Qualifier Meet the Babylon High School boy’s track team broke one of the oldest school track records. The 1982 1600 meter relay record held by Everitt Oliver, John Lugo, David Carter and Dewayne Hudson of three minutes 33.6 seconds was surpassed by this year’s team of three sophomores and one junior. The team members are Greg Farley (52.9), Caleb Long (54.3), Tim Johnsen (53.4) and Henry Mathies (51.6). They placed seventh overall in the county. They broke the old mark with a time of three minutes 32.02 seconds. They just missed qualifying for the state meet by under two seconds. The 3200 meter relay team of Greg Brink, Joe Larsen, Gavin Griffith and Cory Zwerlein placed seventh overall in the county, with a time of eight minutes 31.04 seconds. This team is getting very close to the 1984 record of eight minutes 22.6 seconds, especially with three members of the team returning next year.
