Finding Life and Solice in the Soil Dear Editor:
Finding Life and Solice in the Soil Dear Editor:
Having been raised in Babylon Village, I enjoy periodically reading the Beacon website as a convenient way to stay in touch with my hometown.
I must point out, though, that the quality of writing is in serious decline. The following lines were taken from an editorial article appearing in your June 7th issue titled "Finding life, and solace in soil" written by Carolyn James.
"...My husband and me go to the graves of family members."
"The grandmother who supplemented grandpas wage..."
"They blossom and then, later, die, too, making room for yet another season of flowers."
My husband and me? It’s one thing to hear a Long Islander speak like that, but another to read it published in a periodical!
Thank you for taking on the difficult job of editing a newspaper, as many people truly enjoy reading it, but the little details still matter.
