The Babylon Seventh graders who joined forces last fall with the Babylon Village Historical and Preservation Society to restore the nearly 200-year-old Conklin House, were back at the site last week. With their advisor Ed Augustine and teacher Cindy Theiss, the youngsters planted shrubbery appropriate for the 1800s. Guided by Maira Miles Mason, a member of the Restoration Steering Committee, the students planted a variety of bushes, including lilacs, after making a formal proposal to committee members. Bob Pasch and Scott Lockwood joined the planting party, commenting, "It was a perfect proposal, made by the future trustees of the Conklin House."

Visitors to the site may view the new plant-ings when they attend the July 8 All-village Celebration. Community volunteers who have contributed to Babylon’s quality of life will be honored.

Outstanding Village Volunteer will go to Alice Zaruka, president of the Village Historical and Preservation Society. The Student Volunteer Award will be presented to Tracy Augustine, who has clocked over 2,000 hours of helping the Village. Chairperson of the All-Village Celebration is Doug Chapey, with Scott Lockwood as co-chair and Bob Pasch as coordinator of the steering committee.
