On February 2, there were many shadows to be seen as tenth graders at Deer Park High School participated in Teens on the Job, Long Island Groundhog Shadow Day. Teens on the Job, a program of the Long Island Mentoring Partnership, provides tenth grade students with experiential learning about a chosen career field and its workplace. Job shadowing enables students to shadow a workplace mentor as he or she proceeds through a routine day on the job, providing an up-close look at how the skills learned in school are put into action in the workplace. More ... To encourage students to read, John Quincy Adams School, in the Deer Park School District, held its annual Scholastic book fair. Kindergartners and first and second graders scoured the shelves for books of interest. There were many to choose from as their selection included Clifford, Franklin, Arthur, Winnie the Pooh, Scooby Doo, the Rugrats and Harry Potter as well as books about animals and sports. The most popular choice was the Junie B. Junes series as students bought more than one. More ... The Parent and Youth Activities Committee (P.Y.A.C.) of North Babylon is presenting a series of workshops on "Parenting in the New Millennium." North Babylon residents will receive service credits for any workshops attended. These credits can be applied to registration fee for future P.Y.A.C. programs or events.
