Marion D. Anderson, former Babylon Village resident
Marion D. Anderson, of Walnut Illinois and formerly of Babylon, died October 11, 2000 at the age of 76 at her home.
Mrs. Anderson was born January 26, 1924 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Edward Carleton and Ethel Taylor Dickinson. She moved as an infant to Bridgehampton where she lived until moving to Babylon in 1953 and then to Walnut, Illinois in May of 1999. She was married to Thomas Waldron Anderson, November 24, 1967 in Babylon. After high school, she attended the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City and also worked at the Continental Can Co. in New York City. She was a secretary for the Lindenhurst United Methodist Church and also the Fisher Biedler Insurance Agency in Amityville. She was a member of the Babylon Travelers Club and served on many different boards and committees in various United Methodist Churches. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Women and was also a soloist and choir member at several United Methodist Churches.
Mrs. Anderson was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1999. She is survived by her daughters Susan Penny of Niskayuna, New York and Kathy (Brooke) Haurberg of Walnut, Illinois; her son David Penny of Tempe, Arizona; her stepdaughters Martha and her husband Tom Fontaine of Jupiter, Florida and Kathleen and her husband Tom Brueckner of Barrington, Rhode Island; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services were said at the Walnut United Methodist Church, Walnut, Illinois, Saturday, October 14. An additional service will be said Saturday, October 21, 1 p.m. at the Babylon United Methodist Church, Babylon. Burial will follow in the Long Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Babylon United Methodist Church, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City or Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf.
