Mary De Deyne, 81, of West Babylon
Mary De Deyne, 81, of West Babylon died June 4, 2000. She was a member of the American Legion Post 94, the Ladies Auxiliary and helped found the AHRC’s annual Babylon Tuna Club fundraiser for retarded children.
During World War II, Mrs. De Deyne was an Army nurse serving five years of active duty in Africa and Italy. She attained the rank of First Lieutenant. She was employed as a supervising nurse at Pilgrim State Hospital for 31 years, working the night shift.
Mrs. De Deyne is survived by her children Robert De Deyne and his wife Cathy and by her grandchildren Rachel and Mitchell of Minnesota. Her brother Maurice Griffin of Boston also survives her as does her lifelong friend Kathy Boynton of Babylon. Her husband Omee De Deyne predeceased her.
Mrs. De Deyne reposed at the Claude Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home in Babylon until June 9 when a funeral mass was said at Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church, West Babylon. Interment followed in National Cemetery at Calverton.
