Donning Denim for a Cause
Faculty at Laurel Park Elementary School in the Brentwood School District recently participated in a not-so-average casual Friday. National Denim Day, Sponsored by Lee brand denim, was created to help raise funds for breast cancer research. The staff at Laurel Park contributed to the approximately $10 million which the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation expects to raise this year with just this single event.
Participants nationwide put their own twist on National Denim Day. Laurel Park Elementary School decided to provide candy and balloons for students, as well as to create a commemorative bulletin board on the school’s fund raising accomplishments and the importance of early breast cancer detection. "Lee National Denim Day is extremely important to our employees, as many of them have been personally touched by the disease," said Eileen Pinto, teacher at Laurel Park Elementary. "We enjoy our participation tremendously because it empowers everyone to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer, it’s a great education program within our work walls, and it is so easy for us to implement."
One hundred percent of every dollar raised at Laurel Park Elementary School from Lee National Denim Day goes directly to the Komen Foundation to support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs that might otherwise go unfunded.
