Proclamation recognizes first school opened in Babylon Village in 1805 from State Legislature
In celebration of the Bicentennial of Education in Babylon Village, a special proclamation was prepared by Senator Owen Johnson and approved by the New York State Legislature. The matted and framed proclamation recognized the first school opened in what is now Babylon Village in 1805 and goes on to list the many recent academic and athletic accomplishments of the district’s students and staff. Senator Johnson’s District Officer Manger Gordon Canary, right, made the presentation to Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Bernhard and Board of Education President Thomas Melito, left, during the district’s opening bicentennial event of 2005, which was held May 17. Senator Johnson, a Babylon graduate and a member of the Bicentennial Committee was in Albany on business that day.
