West Gates Elementary in Lindenhurst
kicks off PARP celebration

West Gates Elementary School in Lindenhurst recently kicked-off its three-week PARP celebration. PARP stands for Parents as Reading Partners and the celebration is coordinated through the West Gates PTA to promote reading.

During PARP, parents come to the school with their children on select nights to read with other parents and their children, along with members of the West Gates staff. This includes a pajama night, where the parents and children put on their pajamas and head over to the school for a night of reading in the All-Purpose Room. Professionals from the community will also be coming into the school during the day to read with the children.

As a fun kick-off to the PARP program, the music team of Beth and Scott (Bierko) performed fun, interactive songs with the children, wearing various costumes and incorporating geography and character education into their music with the help of several student volunteers. West Gates teachers and staff, led by Principal Lisa Omeis, performed a song and dance skit of their own entitled Reading at West Gates, set to the music of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas’ oldies hit Dancing in the Streets.
