Resident donates turf to Beach Street
Middle School in West Islip

Three thousand square feet of synthetic grass has been donated and installed on the soccer and lacrosse field at Beach Street Middle School in West Islip by the family of one of the players. The Michael Ryan Family, owners of LandTek, a company that provides technology and durability in site development, has provided the school where son Michael is a student and athlete, with a premiere synthetic all-weather turf. Commenting that it’s "for the kids," Mr. Ryan says the field needed improvement because "it’s used seven days a week. This grass doesn’t have any time off." Also viewed as a safer turf for athletes, the field turf seems to be the answer for a school distirct with an aggressive athletic program. According to Mr. Ryan, within a number of years all districts willl have at least one completely synthetic field.

Pictured on the new turf with several soccer and lacrosse players are Assistant Principal John Mullins and Principal Anne Shierant and then in the center, Mr. Ryan and his son with West Islip Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds Fred Koelbel.
