Students build up banking skills
at Bower Elementary in Lindenhurst

As part of a lesson on decimal addition and subtraction, students in Christine Steinmann’s fifth grade class at E.W. Bower Elementary School in Lindenhurst recently took part in a workshop titled Check it Out. The workshop, headed by Jennifer Basile of Commerce Bank of Massapequa, taught students about the basics of banking. Lessons included how to write a check and the importance of keeping an accurate register.

After reviewing the different components of a check, students were given samples to practice with. The class will continue to build their banking skills with future workshops by Commerce Bank, including programs on the importance of saving money and creating a budget.
