Babylon Grade School learn history by living it
Babylon Memorial Grade School’s annual Greek Festival, chaired by teachers Rita Bartenbeck, Rick Punzone and Nicole Marconi, offers students a chance to live the life of Greek gods and goddesses, mythical characters and historical figures in a jubilee that is open to families and staff. The children study the subject, do research reports, create activity books and make original outfits. For one day in May, the sixth grader’s present a festival during which they speak about who they are in the history books.
Shown is Mackenzie Owens as Persephone, the Goddess of Spring and the Underworld, as she reads her report to her grandmother, Margaret Hughes and classmate Kerri Larsen, who researched Hypnos, the God of Sleep.
