Richard McGill, former Biltmore Shores Civic President and WWII Vet

Richard McGill loved living in Massapequa and was involved in many of its clubs. At different times, he voluntarily served as the president of the Biltmore Shores Civic Association, the Biltmore Shores Beach Club and the St. Rose of Lima Holy Name Society.

Richard H. McGill died July 16, 2005. He was 82 years old.

Mr. McGill was a proud World War II Army veteran at the invasion of Normandy. He lived on Bayview Avenue in Massapequa for 42 years with his wife of 44 years, Marion. For the last three years, he lived in Sterling Glen, an assisted living facility in Bay Shore.

An attorney for more than 50 years, he opened his own practice in Garden City, which he eventually moved to Massapequa. He served as the past president of the Nassau County Lawyers Association and the Nassau County Bar Association.

"My dad would help anyone at any time of the day or night," said his daughter, Marian. "That’s just what kind of person he was."

Mr. McGill loved his church, St. Rose of Lima, where he was a Eucharistic minister. He also was involved with the church’s Catholic Youth Organization and their School Board. During family get-togethers, he would entertain everyone on the piano and loved to dine with his friends at local Massapequa restaurants.

Mr. McGill leaves behind his children: Barbara C. of California, Patricia A. of California, Kathleen Herron of Amityville, Marian Barr and her husband Gary of Lindenhurst, Richard K. and his wife Catherine of Staten Island and Thomas P. of Texas; his grandchildren: Frank and his wife Jessica, Kelley, Allyson and Ireland; and his great granddaughter, Victoria. His wife, Marion C., (nee Kennedy) predeceased him.

Mr. McGill reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home, Inc., North Chapel, 1050 Park Boulevard, Massapequa Park. A mass was said July 19, 2005 at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church followed by internment in Calverton National Cemetery.
