Simpson United Methodist Church welcomes new pastor

Last month Amityville’s Simpson United Methodist Church, 30 Locust Avenue, welcomed a new pastor, the Reverend Jack E. Polin. Before he was appointed by Bishop Jeremiah J. Park of the New York Annual Conference, he served for three years at the United Methodist Church in Hankins, located in Upstate New York.

Born in Cuba, he settled in Cleveland with his family when he was an infant and grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In addition to the Amityville church, Reverend Polin also runs a Spanish ministry in Farmingdale, the Hispanic Methodist Church.

In his spare time, the 38-year old pastor said he enjoys reading, gardening and walking his dog. He divides his time between Amityville and Hankins where his wife of eight years, Nancy lives with their bevy of chickens, roosters and other farm animals.

"I am eager to work to help grow the church and help the community any way I can," said Reverend Polin who added he liked Long Island because it’s like living in a city without being overwhelming like Manhattan. "I am enjoying it here so far," he said.
