Travis Voltz student at Lindenhurst Middle School - Winnar of LIPA Essay Contest


Travis Volz, an eighth-grader at Lindenhurst Middle School, recently received top prize in Suffolk County (grade eight category) in the Long Island Power Authority’s (LIPA) Emergency Preparedness & Energy Conservation Essay Contest, sponsored in conjunction with Newsday. Essays focused on the effects of the Blackout of 2003 and what can be done to save energy.

In the photo, Travis Volz, center, received a gift certificate, simulated ‘Front Page’ of Newsday with his photo, and a plaque for the Middle School. At left is Newsday publisher, President and CEO Raymond Jansen and at right is LIPA Chairman and CEO Richard Kessel.
