Anti-gay amendment is illegal according to reader
Dear Editor:

I’ve read the letter from Mace Greenfield about gay marriage. If I remember correctly, this is at least, the second letter from him on this subject.

I can’t understand why it’s anyone’s business who wants to get married. Marriage is a personal thing between two people. There are two reasons why the proposed Constitutional amendment would be illegal. First, it is usually a religious ceremony. That is protected by the First Amendment. Second, and most important, is the fact that, nowhere does the Constitution mention marriage. Therefore, according to the Tenth Amendment, it is a violation of the law for the federal government to restrict it in any way. If this is a political move, it could backfire when all the gay voters turn out to vote, and they will.

As for Mr. Mace’s objections, I certainly hope he isn’t married. All he mentions are the financial benefits and disadvantages of marriage. If marriage only means money to him, he must have a very miserable marriage. The key factor in marriage has nothing to do with money, it’s supposed to be Love, whether between a man and a woman or two people of the same gender. It’s not anyone’s business to interfere with that.
