James Rodriguez, formerly of Bay Shore James Rodriguez of Lowville, New York and formerly of Bay Shore, died July 7, 2004 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, New York, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Mr. Rodriguez was born May 4, 1928, in the Bronx, the son of David and Lusia Marie Sebastion Rodriguez. He lived on Long Island for many years and retired from Grumman Aerospace as art director of the presentations department. He also worked for C.M. Johnson Co. of Bethpage, proud of the savings he had accumulated there before the company folded and Mr. Johnson moved to Florida. While at Grumman, he designed the distinctive logo for the US Navy F-14 Tomcat fighter, showing a tomcat with six guns and the words, "Anytime Baby!" Mr. Rodriguez was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Rodriguez will be sorely missed by his Grumman retiree friends, with whom he golfed, traveled and fished. He continued his painting after retirement, portraying upstate and Long Island scenes, flora and fauna including a stunning innovative "four-view" of Holly, a Bassett owned by Florence and E. Lee North of Brightwaters. He was an expert fly fisherman, designing his own flies and incorporating the designs into tee-shirts that have been sold throughout the country. He was an avid golfer and charter member of the Guilford Lake Golf Classic, a tournament held each summer in Chenango County. To the delight of his younger friends, Mr. Rodriguez was an accomplished magician, always ready to keep them enthralled with his trick. Surviving Mr. Rodriguez is his son, James Rodriguez, Jr. of Florida. Mr. Rodriguez wanted no viewing or memorial. His friends suggest contributions in his name be made to the National Audubon Society, Attention Rachel Simon, 700 Broadway, New York, NY 10003.
