Joseph Glitzner Jr., 100, formerly of Islip Joseph Glitzner Jr., of Jupiter, Florida and formerly of Islip, ex-chief of the Islip Fire Department, died November 28, 2003at Hospice of Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Florida after a brief illness. He was 100 years old. Chief Glitzner was born July 16, 1903 in Vienna Austria, the son of the late Joseph Glitzner and Louise Doujak Glitzner. He had been a resident of Jupiter for the past six years, coming from Islip. Mr. Glitzner was a member of the East Islip Fire Department for 62 years. He was also a retired employee of Republic Aviation, with 27 years of service. He was a member of the Order of St. Francis of Islip and was a communicant of St. Mary’s R.C. Church in East Islip and St. Peter Catholic Church in Jupiter. Mr. Glitzner was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Penn Glitzner in January of 1978. Survivors include his sister Lillian G. McCarthy of Jupiter; his nieces and nephews, Jack Glitzner, Joseph Glitzner, Frances Trubicz, Lois Tice, Linda Burke, Carla Pisani, Theodore McCarthy, Patricia Kruck, Michael McCarthy and Susan McCarthy Smith and many great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Felix Glitzner and sister Louis Koncelik. Mr. Glitzner reposed at Overton Funeral Home, 172 Main St., Islip. A Mass of Christian Burial was said Friday, December 5, 2003 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, East Islip. Interment was in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
