It’s humans who are a nuisance to the geese This is written in rebuttal to the two articles appearing in the July 18 issue of the Babylon Beacon, referring to the decision of whether or not to remove the overpopulated amount of geese in our Village. If people would heed to the signs posted around the lake reading, "Do not feed the birds," perhaps we would not have this problem. The two people who wrote these letters should move to some distant jungle where they could live in harmony with all the wildlife they choose. We have one of the most pleasant villages on Long Island and our hard-earned tax dollars are paid to keep it that way. There is nothing wrong with gathering up these pests and shipping them to some habitat up in New York State. I don’t know if either of these two persons have children of their own, but if they do, they certainly are not very concerned about the environment in which they have to play. Last year the Village refurbished the ball field opposite Babylon High School. A week or so later, I was driving by, only to see the entire field covered with geese. A few months ago, I was almost involved in an automobile pile-up on Montauk Highway when the traffic came to a sudden halt to allow an entourage of geese to cross the road. If you want to direct your misguided energy to something more worthwhile, then write to your lawmakers to pass stronger laws against these degenerates who prey on innocent children to the point where they cannot feel safe playing in front of their own homes or school playgrounds. This is what’s shameful and immoral. Terese Cullinane Babylon
