Virginia V. Goldsmith, former resident of DP


Virginia V. Goldsmith, of Deer Park and Dames Quarter, Maryland, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 Born October 9, 1916, Mrs. Goldsmith was a graduate of the State University College at New Paltz. she served as a teacher for 35 years. she was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Deer Park for more than 50 years and served as a volunteer at the United Presbyterian Residence in Syosset for 24 years. In addition to her family, her church and her career, Mrs. Goldsmith was active in Cooperative Extension Homemakers, Babylon Travelers’ Club and the Deer Park Historical Society. She also volunteered at the Fire Island Lighthouse. During her residency in Dames Quarter, she was a member of the Deal Island Mac Center and attended the Rock Creek United Methodist Church in Chance. She enjoyed bird watching, beach combing, cooking, crocheting and flower arranging.

Mrs. Goldsmith is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Lawrence E. Goldsmith; her parents George A. Velsor and Cora E. Wood Velsor and her sister, Geraldine Christoffers. Surviving her are her daughter, Nancy A. Goldsmith and her husband, John R. Badger of Dames Quarter; a son, Gary L. Goldsmith and his wife, Gary L. Goldsmith and his wife, Catherine of Islip and grandchildren, Paul and Nancy. A funeral service was said, Saturday, July 20, 2002 at the Community Presbyterian Church, Deer Park. Mrs. Goldsmith reposed at the Claude R. Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home, 1785 Deer Park Ave., Deer Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church of Deer Park, 1843 Deer Park Ave., Deer Park or to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714.
