Babylon High School physics students visit grade school

Recently students enrolled in high school physics class visited the Babylon Memorial Grade School to help grade five and six students with their science projects. Prior to the visit, grade school students submitted project suggestions to the high school students for review. Then the high school students visited with them and offered suggestions and procedures necessary to ensure a successful result.

This program was coordinated by physics teacher and science director Richard Vultaggio. According to Vultaggio "The high school students gain as much in this program as the grade school students. They learn to use their science skills in a teaching situation. At the same time the program fosters a sense of school and community pride that pays huge dividends which are not easily measured."

The students will be displaying their projects at the P.T.A. Science Fair on April 9 in the grade school gymnasium.

The science mentors from 11th grade are Erin Conway, Sarah Cotter, Tim Johnsen, Colin Leitch, Mike Maloney, Henry Mathies, Keith McLoughlin, Sarah McLoughlin, Mark Mihopulos, Zach Napolitano, Patricia O’Hara, Jessica Poelker, Priya Ramanathan, Mike Renganeschi, Andrew Rogers, John Telesca, Kim Tong and Cory Zwerlein and from 12th grade are Greg Brink, Tom Canning, Joe Fraccalvieri, Peter Gallay, Mike Koehler, Jennifer Lodico, Caleb Long, Melissa Sharapata, Neha Suchdeve, Stephanie Suttmeier, Briana Tutino, Karen Vannostrand, Daniel Venti, Kevin Warren and Rachel Yarmosh.
